Celebrate Black History Month with BPL
During Black History Month, we celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation it is today.
As a library, our values are rooted in inclusion, diversity, accessibility and education. We’ve put together resources in partnership with UPlift Black Barrie to help you listen, learn, and keep the conversation going 365 days a year.
With so much selection at your fingertips for free, sometimes the hardest part is knowing what to read next. Not sure where to start? We can help!Â
Our staff are experts in all things book-related and we take pride in recommending that next great title. There are a few different services we offer to help take the guesswork out of stocking up your reading list.
In the mood for something offbeat and engaging? Or maybe your teen could use something angst-filled and authentic? NoveList Plus has something for every mood! Get started today. All you need is a library card.
Wondering what to read next? Let us know about your likes, dislikes, and preferences, and we’ll recommend the Next 5 titles you should read, watch, or listen to! We can either email you the list or put them on hold for you.
Are you a writer, or do you aspire to be one? Mark February 13-19 on your calendar - we've partnered with the Barrie Writers’ Club and Word Up! to host our first Write ON! Festival. This series of online workshops, instructional videos and panel discussions will be led by writers, authors and creators.
This is a great opportunity to build your writing skills while also getting an insider’s view of the publishing industry.
Check out these books from our children's collection highlighting famous Black figures throughout history, Black authors, and stories about Black people, both fictional and real.
Did you know you can schedule an Express Pick-up appointment to pick up your materials at the door? When you are notified that your holds are ready, you have 7 days to schedule a time slot. Appointments are available 7 days a week!
This is a great option if you are in a rush, have kids in the car, or you're just not comfortable with coming into a public space at the moment.
Storytimes about Black history are valuable for all children, no matter what their heritage might be. Join us for some songs, stories and rhymes to celebrate Black History and Culture.
Join BPL and OGS as we explore ways to boost your family history research. Come prepared with questions you've found during your own genealogy adventures and ask our expert volunteer.
Have you got the winter blues? Coping with social isolation during the winter months can be difficult in the best of times. Visit our Community Directory to learn about the Mental Health supports in the Barrie area. Scroll to the Explore section and click on Mental Health/Addictions.
