Barrie Public Library
What's Happening @ BPL: October 2021
[First Name], check out what's happening in the library this month!

Ancestry has been the gold standard in family history research for a while. Under normal circumstances, it’s only available to visitors who come in-person to the library. But those lovely people at Ancestry have allowed us to provide access to Ancestry Library Edition from the comfort of your own home!

In Ancestry you can do wide-ranging searches across time and space to weave together the story of your ancestors. Pinpoint birth and marriage dates, confirm where ancestors lived and their occupation, discover unknown great uncles and aunts, and so much more.

You may even be able to get a picture of the ship that brought a family member to Canada! And thanks to the breadth of records in Ancestry, your research can cover most English-speaking countries and beyond.

Dyslexia Awareness Month
Each October, Canadians celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Month. This year’s theme intends to inspire young people across Canada to be proud that they are #PoweredByDyslexia as well as to provide a platform for young voices to be heard. Helping to empower these voices will allow those with dyslexia to learn how to self-advocate for their educational needs.

Check out our list of dyslexia-friendly books for children, teens, and adults. These books feature a special dyslexia-friendly font and other dyslexia-friendly features such as heavier off-white paper and increased white space.
